Migration and Distribution of Population
"At my time the population had become permanent. A type of "Cydonian" resident had emerged. I know that there were immigrants from Lesvos (they were the majority), from the Peloponnese, from Limnos (my mother's father was Limnian), from Tenedos, Imvros, and less from Macedonia and Epirus. There were also immigrants from other parts of Greece, from Syros and elsewhere. But they were individuals, not groups. They were married into local families and settled down. We had no migrants from Sparti [İsparta] or Attaleia [Antalya], unless there were some isloated cases. The prime of Ayvalık was before 1821; after the destruction, in 1830, the population returned, and with them came also the immigrants. After 1890 there were no immigrants anymore."
