The Tornikios family was of Armenian origin, while it had probably some Georgian root. They settled in Constantinople in the early 10th century and played a very important role in the political affairs of the empire until the early 14th century. The members of the family held senior military and political posts, while they distinguished themselves as scholars as well. |
