ΠΕΡΙΛΗΨΗ
The Byzantine family of Maniakes came from central Asia Minor and emerged in the early 11th century. Its first known member is Goudelios Maniakes. His son, George, distinguished himself during the wars against the Arabs on the eastern border and in Sicily. In 1042-1043 he rebelled and was finally killed while fighting against the imperial troops. Theophylaktos Maniakes, another distinguished member of the family, became a strategos in 1057. After the 11th century, we lose trace of the Maniakes family. |
