The so-called Public Market of Side (Complex M) is situated in the eastern part of the city. It is a monumental colonnaded edifice, which comprises a court with surrounding porticoes and three rooms in a row on its eastern side. The exact function of the complex remains uncertain. According to one view it was used as a gymnasium, whereas according to another one it was the public market (agora) of the city. The edifice dates from the Antoninianian era, i.e. from the late 2nd century A.D. |
