ΠΕΡΙΛΗΨΗ
The first emperor (23 November 1059 - 22/23 May 1067) from the eminent family of Doukas, the first Byzantine dynasty with a family name, Constantine Doukas, during his brief reign had to face numerous external threats: the Seljuks from the east, the Normans from the west and the Oguz and the Pechenegs from the north. His rule was marked by the heavy taxation, the neglect and weakening of the army and the loss of both eastern and north Italian territories. |
