ΠΕΡΙΛΗΨΗ
In 114 AD, emperor Trajan campaigned in the East and after deposing the Parthian king of Armenia, he seized and annexed the region to the Roman domains. He then advanced to northern Mesopotamia. In 116 AD, he crossed the Tigris River and conquered the province of Assyria. His victorious advance continued southwards, towards the Parthian capital of Ctesiphon and the Persian gulf. The consequent general revolt and invasion of Parthians to the new provinces forced Trajan to make territorial compromises, creating a subordinate Parthian kingdom. Until Trajan’s death in 117 AD, northern Mesopotamia and a large part of Armenia remained into Roman hands, but they were abandoned by Hadrian, his successor. |
