1. Bishopric of Lebedos
Lebedos, a city on the coast of western Asia Minor, to the northwest of Ephesos, was the seat of a bishopric in the province of Asia, subjected to the metropolis of Ephesus. In the of the Middle and Late Byzantine period Lebedos is ranked 28th, 30th or 31st among the bishoprics of the metropolis of Ephesus (in a total of 34 to 39 bishoprics). The bishopric is known from the early Byzantine period, since the bishops of Lebedos participated in the and Seventh (787) Ecumenical Councils, as well as in the councils of 1167 and 1230. |
