METHODOLOGY |
The methodology followed in the various units is the same with the one described in the introductory page of the project “Encyclopaedia of the Hellenic World". However, given that each geographical area under examination has its peculiar characteristics, we considered necessary to point out the methodological elements that characterize each one of them. With the term “Asia Minor” we indicate, for the purposes of this work, the geographical area of present-day Asian Turkey. This means that the cities of the coast of Northern Turkey are included both in this volume and in the following one about the Black Sea. Instead Constantinople, due to its particular historical significance, constitutes a separate volume. The Foundation’s involvement with three-dimensional reconstructions of Asia Minor buildings of Antiquity and the Byzantine Period led to the production of a large volume of information relevant to the architectural elements of the area. This is the reason why we have a separate thematic unit called “buildings”. |
