The systematic study of the clay excavation finds of Nicaea (now Iznik) proves the existence of pottery workshops in the particular city in the Byzantine period (9/10th centuries-early 14th century). This is additional evidence supporting that Nicaea was the centre for the production of the renowned “Tiles of Nicomedia”.
