1. Bishopric of Orcistus

The first known bishop of Orcistus was Domnus, who in 431 signed the acts of the Third Ecumenical Council in Ephesus. In 451 the bishop of Orcistus Longinus took part in the Fourth Ecumenical Council in Chalkedon. The acts of the Quinisext Ecumenical Council (Constantinople 691-692) Segermas signed as the bishop of Orkosetos. Orcistus is mentioned as a bishopric in the notitiae from the 9th until the 12th century and was under the jurisdiction of the metropolis of Pissinous of the province of Galatia II (Salutaris).1 In the notitia no.4, which dates to the second half of the 9th century, the bishopric of Orcistus is mentioned in the last position between the seven in total bishoprics of the metropolis of Pissinous, whereas in all the rest of the notitiae it holds the last but one (sixth) position.2 For the period from the 12th century onwards no information on the bishopric of Orcistus is preserved.
