ΠΕΡΙΛΗΨΗ
Myra was one of the most important cities of Lycia and one of the most active members of the Lycian League. The city was flourishing in the late Hellenistic and Roman times. It actually became capital of the province of Lycia-Pamphylia with the administrative reform of Diocletian, thus undermining Xanthos. However, it was Christianity that made the city known to the rest of the world, as one of its bishops was St. Nicholas, known as protector of the children and particularly venerated both in the Orthodox and in the Catholic tradition. |
