1570-1580: Foundation of Ayvalık (Cydoniae).
1773: The Ottoman administration grants privileges.
1800: Foundation of the Academy of Cydoniae.
1821: Destruction of the city by the Ottoman army and refugee movement towards Greece.
1827-1832: Gradual return of the refugees and re-establishment of the city. A relevant firman is issued.
1840: Inclusion in the sancak of Balıkeser.
1840-1841: Grave intercommunal dispute.
1880: Reconstruction of the port.
1905-1908: Conflict between the city and the metropolitan of Ephesus over the status of Ayvalık in ecclesiastical administration (Ephesian issue). The conflict ended with the secession of Ayvalık from the diocese of Ephesus and the foundation of the diocese of Cydoniae.
4/6/1909: Martial law is declared for approximately two months.
1917: The residents are expelled to the interior of Asia Minor. They returned in 1919.
1919-1922: Ayvalık is placed under Greek administration.
1922: Destruction of the community. Persecution of the Greek-Orthodox and expulsion to Greece.
